Renewable from beetle-killed trees was recently listed as one of 21 products to meet Environmental Protection Agency requirements for use in emergency oil spill response.
The Buffalo-based company, which manufactures natural sorbents and bioremediation agents, satisfied the requirements of the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP). The NCP governs the use of agents used in responding to oil spills on waterways or other natural resources belonging to or managed by the federal government.
Being placed on the NCP list allows LBI’s product, called DUALZORB, to remain in the environment after cleanup of an oil spill on federal and state lands. Current methods of site cleanup require the complete removal of contaminated soil for treatment, disturbing ecosystems and natural resources. LBI’s product achieves the same level of cleanup without disturbing the ecosystem.
