The Association of Mine Managers of Zimbabwe visited Galane Gold Mine in Botswana as part of its current thrust to revive the body and enhance external collaboration by creating mutually beneficial links, the trip started with a surface tour at Turk Mine where the members were taken through by the General Manager Aubrey Everitt and his technical team. The entourage then left for Botswana.
At Turk Mine, the members had a surface tour of the operations, there was a presentation of the geology and mining sequence at the mine, there was an extended discussion on the complexity of the sulphide mineralisation. This was followed by a tour of the process plant were members were shown the plant expansion taking place with a larger crushing circuit that is about to be commissioned, interestingly Turk Mine has acquired and installed a Deswik Mill that grinds ore to a finesse which enables more gold recovery, this development is expected to increase their mill throughput considerably.
The AMMZ members were welcomed at Galane Gold Mine by the General Manager, Lawrence Manjengwa and his technical team, this was preceded by a very informative presentation of the Galane Gold operations, and there was a detailed discussion on the geology Tati Greenstone Belt which hosts the Galane Gold and all its exploration activities.
There was also discussion on issues affecting operations and a lot of similar challenges experienced in Zimbabwe resulted in a lot of information sharing amongst the parties, also issues touched on were industrial relations, government’s relations and incentives to the mining industry.
