The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr. Tony Aubynn has commended Engineers & Planners (E&P), an indigenous Ghanaian company, for breaking into the domain of foreign mining companies in the country.
He said since he assumed office, he has closely monitored the operation of E&P and considered upgrading its status to an affiliate of the Chamber.
“You cannot have this equipment and operate and continue to be an affiliate of the Chamber. We will move you to the level of a contractor because you have worked hard for it,” he said.
He noted that E&P’s achievement was needed to propel the mining sector in terms of local content, adding that was the only way to retain skills. Further said E&P was a sole mining contractor for the world’s leading producer of steel, Arcellor Mittal on its iron ore concession in Yekepa, Liberia.
“Working for them means you have demonstrated enough that you have control in the areas of safety, competency, commitment, reliability and your ability to work continuously.” he said.
He recommended E&P to all Ghanaian based companies who wish to venture into the industry, adding that they must meet its standards and learn to promote their interest in the sector.
