Tanzania Diamond Sorting (TANSORT) has helped small-scale miners to set market prices and enabled the government increase royalty’s collections.
Speaking at the 37th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), gemologists expert in diamond and coloured stones, Ms. Teddy Goliama, said TANSORT usually identify and value gemstones and ensure small miners receive a good price in the global market.
Ms. Goliama said since Tansort started identifying and valuing gemstones, there have been improvements in the country’s gemstones to international levels. Speaking at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals pavilion, Ms. Goliama said apart from identifying and valuing gemstones, the department is also tasked with ensuring the government receives rightful royalties.
Tansort ensures that the government receives the correct royalties and the department has expanded its work to start providing services to miners in other parts of the country.
These include miners in Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Shinyanga and Songea, as well as helping small miners in identifying both diamond and coloured gemstones and valuing to get the correct prices.
