The 3rd annual edition of Copperbelt Mining Trade Expo and Conference (CBM-TEC) brings several new features, including a change of venue in 2016! Moving to the Kitwe Showgrounds after having entered into a venue partnership with the Copperbelt Show Society, CBM-TEC, taking place from 12-13 May 2016 promises to be bigger and better in a year when the global mining industry is needing to go back to the drawing board to remain resilient during challenging times.
The event has become Zambia’s leading professional attendance platform to showcase over 130 suppliers and service providers to the mining industry, still the backbone of Zambia’s economy and up until 2014, responsible for 80% of Zambia’s foreign export earnings. However, plunging commodity prices linked to the decline of demand from China has hit Zambia, Africa’s leading copper producer. Furthermore, the mines, who consume 50% of Zambia’s electricity supply have had a to take a double blow as falling dam levels have led to debilitating power shortages. Amidst an economic downturn, CBM-TEC remains a relevant and critical part of Zambia’s mining calendar very specifically because its an event for the industry by the industry and has positioned itself as the definitive think-tank to solve a myriad of issues facing the industry, but also because it still provides the essential connectivity for both the local and international suppliers directly to the mining buying audience.
