Randgold signs joint venture for gold project in Congo

In spite of political instability, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s abundant mineral resources are still the discerning investor’s magnet. And one of the companies to demonstrate its confidence in the country’s mining sector is Randgold Resources.

In a statement it has issued on Tuesday, Randgold Resources says it has entered a joint venture in the Democratic Republic of Congo with a company controlled by Israeli billionaire Dan Gertler and a state miner.

The gold project in northeastern Congo with Moku Goldmines, majority-owned by Gertler’s Fleurette Group, and state miner Sokimo could allow Randgold to acquire a minimum 51% stake by funding and conducting exploration and completing a prefeasibility study.
