Scheduled at the time when the commodities have experienced the worst slump probably in living memory, the forthcoming World Diamond Congress, the biennial meeting of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA), which will take place in Dubai from 16th to 19th May 2016, is, without doubt, the most significant ever. The Congress is the opportunity for producers to review market conditions and map up future strategies.
Among the issues on the Agenda is the work and approach of the diamond producers, themed ‘Transparency, Responsibility, Sustainability in Producing Countries’. Representatives of leading producers will be involved in a panel discussion. At this year’s gathering, for the first time, a panel element, with the aim of encouraging attendees to take part, has been introduced.
On the significance of this year’s meeting, WFDB President, Ernie Blom, stated from Antwerp, Belgium: “We are expecting delegates from the major diamond producing companies and countries to take part. They will present their views on the state of the market and their supply strategies, as well as other subjects.”
Certainly, Blom believes what should excite participants is that rough diamond purchases have been encouragingly strong in the first months of 2016.”
