In shocking revelations have emerged in recent weeks, over $15 billion in diamond revenue was unaccounted for during the Presidency of Robert Mugabe.
A committee of lawmakers in Zimbabwe will be conducting an investigation to establish the claims, according to African News Agency.
“The committee resolved to call the former president to testify,” Temba Mliswa, an independent lawmaker who chairs parliament’s committee on mines and energy said.
“He was the president, and we want to know where he was getting the $15-billion figure from,” African News Agency quoted Mliswa.
Mugabe together with loyalists have been subjected to what many believe is a selective prosecution by new President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Members of the current regime had been benefiting from being part of Mugabe’s regime until weeks before the fall out.
