Construction quality assessment body, Agrément SA, handed over 31 certificates to participants for innovative engineering excellence in South Africa during a first ever ceremony after 50 years of existence held at the CSIR in Pretoria today.
The certification includes non-standardised construction products and systems through technical assessment as being fit -for- purpose.
‘’The reason for certifying fit-for purpose is to give assurance to stakeholders that the products have been assessed and approved says Agrèment SA’s CEO Joe Odhiambo.
As Agrèment SA, we encourage the use of innovative building technologies, as they are cost effective and environmental friendly. We have the best measures put in place to ensure that all products adhere to our technical assessment standards, adds Odhiambo.
Since its inception, Agrèment SA has received over 1 000 applications of which 550 were successfully assessed and Agrèment certificates granted.
Before Agrèment can approve the product, the following is assessed:
- Structural strength and stability
- Behaviour in fire
- Water penetration
- Thermal performance
- Durability and maintenance required
- The likelihood of condensation forming on the inside of the building
- Acoustic performance
- The applicant’s quality system
